The Transporters DVD helps 2-8 year old children on the autism spectrum recognize and understand emotions

On December 1st the groundbreaking new Transporters DVD becomes available in the US at www.thetransporters.com. A special introductory price runs until the end of December 2008.

The Transporters is an animation series that kids love to watch over and over

The Transporters DVD is the brainchild of Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, a leading world authority on autism and Director of the Autism Research Center at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. Simon and the team behind The Transporters wanted to create a series children with autism would love and that would teach them about emotions at the same time. They set about inventing eight lovable vehicles, specifically designed to appeal to children with autism and Asperger's syndrome. These trains, trams and cable cars have adventures based around 15 key emotions. Cleverly, the vehicles have real human faces so the children learn to recognize emotions on real faces rather than cartoon ones. This helps them to generalize what they learn into everyday life.

The specially produced North American version of the DVD has US accents and vocabulary.

World-class research supports The Transporters

A new study from Cambridge University, to be published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, found that after watching the DVD for just 15 minutes a day for four weeks most children with autism caught up with other children in their ability to recognize emotions.

The DVD has taken almost 3 years of intense research and production effort to create and has involved children with autism at every stage. You can find more information and a short movie about the research at www.thetransporters.com/research.html.

Parents and professionals like what they see

"The Transporters has been fantastic for us, and now (only a couple of weeks later) it seems that my 4 year-old's understanding of emotions and recognizing the facial expressions has improved enormously… Quite phenomenal!"

Amanda Millmore, parent, Berkshire, UK

"The Transporters DVD is a wonderfully innovative way to help children with autism. Combining animated mechanical vehicles with real human faces is a format that is captivating and fun"

Alison Tepper Singer, Executive Vice President, Autism Speaks, USA

Parents who have used the DVD have reported noticeable improvements and stronger emotional bonds with their children. Professionals have noted children commenting on other people's feelings, often for the first time. More comments and testimonials from parents, carers and professionals can be found at www.thetransporters.com/say.html.
