Episode 2: Sally's Sad Day

In Sally's Sad Day, Sally starts off very happy because she's taking the schoolchildren to the Observatory, where a photographer is going to take a picture. But on her way, Sally gets splattered with mud, making her sad because she will be dirty in the photograph. Sally is even sadder when she is told that the trip has been cancelled because there is a broken rail on the viewing platform at the Observatory. But then she discovers the trip has been changed to a picnic on top of the hill. This makes Sally happy. Dan is also happy, because he can now come with Sally and the children. When they get to the picnic area, the photographer makes sure Sally's muddy door can't be seen.

Why we feel sad
Sadness is caused when we lose, or when we don't get something that we really want, or when we can't do something that we would like to do.
Ask the child:
How did Sally's feelings change when different things happened to her?
How did she help herself to feel better?
How did her friends help her to feel better?
Your child and feeling sad
Ask the child:
What do you like doing?
How do you feel when you can't do it?
What do you like having?
How do you feel when it is lost/broken/finished?
How do you know you feel sad?
How can other people tell you're sad?
What makes you feel better?
